Life Lessons from a Phenomenal Driver ;)

Okay check out how damn festive I am with my background and suped upness of my blog...all this hard work and effort and I only have one freakin' follower...? This is shat...well, I know there are others who read it, as I have been told, but I mean, come on...I am more tempted to write exciting tales if I know I've got some sort of following going on...I think I am going to have to promote myself and email out my blog to the world so they can tune into my oh so exciting life!
Today I must touch on the life lesson that I learned today...I remember in some class that I took at one point we were discussing the controversial issue as to whether or not senior citizens should be let behind the wheel of a car. At what point to you take their privilege to drive away from them? Do you set a flat age rate? Or do you force them to take a driving test every year until they flunk? The answer my friends, is yes...we all know we hate to get behind gramps' Caddy in the fast lane on the freeway (where he has no business being, mind you). However, today was the icing on the cake.
I was cruising over to DSW to toture myself by "shopping" for shoes (shopping in quotations because i don't have money to actually make a purchase. I just like to buzz off the scent of a glorious pair of new shoes). Luckily there weren't any that I felt I couldn't live without out or it may have just left me depressed as I left the store. Anyway, as I am driving through the hellish shopping center (I used to work in this shopping center and i assure you it is one of the most poorly designed and full of the biggest idiots in the US), I stop for yet another pedestrian, but this time my path to move forward, once they had crossed, is impeded by a car that is now about to back up, and god knows they weren't going to let me get by first. As the car begins to back out, the driver has clearly not looked anywhere but in front of them (which is a pointless place to look, as we all know) because he is about 3 inches from running over a pedestrian on his passenger side. the woman stops, clearly pissed off that she was nearly squashed after her exciting shopping spree at Marshall's. Instead of backing away from the car like a normal human she stops dead in her tracks, I'm sure to make some sort of point to the driver that they nearly hit her, and stands 3 inches from the car as it continues to try to back out...I'm pretty sure the man driving had no idea she was standing there anyway until he got about halfway out of the spot and the pedestrian now decided she had wasted her time standing at the cars edge for the 4 min it took this guy to back up so she starts walking around the front of the car and suddenly i see her slam her palm on the car's hood to get the man's attention. At this point he was now backing into an armored truck with no cares in the world, the lady was sounding an alarm to warn him. All the time im ready to ram them all with my car for their lack of brain function. The man is finally out of the spot and I am relieved that we can finally get moving since we have about a 15 car pile-up behind me now...some intelligent individuals are jamming down lanes just to get around (I of course am stuck with nowhere to go). However, we don't go anywhere cause the geriatric is moving at 5mph through the lot (no exaggeration). Once he proceeds to turn on his blinker when rounding a curve (not a turn or corner, an actual curve on the road there is no left or right this is just the shape of the road) I have had enough. Luckily I blasted into a spot, but he unfortunately set the agenda for all old people...final decision these people need to take a BEHIND THE WHEEL driving test once a year. I dont' care if it's a damn inconvenience...we are all inconvenienced by their menacing driving tactics and lack of ability to see over the steering wheel! Someone notify Congress!!

In Response to Mo

Wow! I am pumped to see I have someone interested!! Hahaha...I just saw your comments from a previous blog and i obviously did not address them in the blog I just posted so let me get to that right now :)

1) What does your new major entail? What sort of job path, etc?
The new major is something that I wanted to chose from the beginning of my college career like 5.5 years ago or whatever it was...I just decided against it since i was not going to be required to take any physics or chem, which i felt would hindered my med-school path. There is a lot of different thing you can do with anthro as far as research goes, but most reverts back to teaching at universities, which I am clearly not interested in. I am using the degree to get me into forensic anthro (we all know I have always loved forensics). With forensic anthro you are invited onto cases when body parts that are unidentifiable by other sources are found by investigators. It can be whole skeletons, or fragments of body or bone. My job is to identify the stats on who the person may have been. Sometimes you can even get some DNA and whatnot. So basically it is a big puzzle. However, as you can imagine you may not get onto that many cases a year so most forensic anthropologists have other jobs as well. I'm looking into working for a coroners office or something like that cause right now I can't imagine teaching and I have read that they work there a lot of times, but I'm not exactly sure of what they would do there. Once I graduate from UCSD I have to go back to grad school immediately, because you have to get a masters and possibly even a PhD in bio or archaeological anthro in order to get a job in forensic anthro. I am really excited about this. I have been looking at programs that offer bio anthro or physical anthro with an emphasis in forensics and I have pretty much looked at just about every school in the US and found 4 that I am interested in (it was hard to find them it's pretty rare). so in fall '10 I will hopefully be accepting into one of these programs at either Boston University, University of Florida, NYU, or Penn State. I am hoping mostly for Boston!!

2) What made you change your mind?
I had been doing some soul searching at the time. I had really come to the realization that with my lack of competitive grades I was not going to be a "shoe in" into any med school. Possibly some shitty one, but I wanted to stay coastal, any coast. so I may have got in somewhere that I really didn't want to go, and that didn't sit well with me. Plus the thought of another 2 full years of school, plus one year off in between, plus another 4 made me want to puke...I was going to be far too old before I made any kind of money or could settle down wherever I wanted. I really lost interest in it as well. I have always had forensics in the back of my mind, but didn't want to be a investigator or something because I like specialization. I started looking into specialties and this anthropology deal sounded exactly like what I was looking for. I chose Human bio because I am fascinated by the human body. I really haven't learned much about it despite the 900 classes i have taken. I started looking back into the major I had originally wanted and realized it was muuuuuch more what I was looking for and decided that it was insane for me to stay with the major that i was in since I only chose it because it was the closest to the bio anthro which i decided against only because of med school which i had all ready decided I was not doing anymore. So I went in and spoke to the undergrad advisor of the department and was on the road to success. So basically, I have wasted about 3 years working on shit for my other major, but I guess I don't feel like it is a total waste because I did love chem and i am glad to know all that crap that i would have never taken if i wasn't forced!

3) When is the soonest Jay could leave?
Jay could leave any day after he passes this physical deal. He can test every week until he passes. You have to train really hard for it, but by trying to pass every week it is like training so he took it last week more as a training cause he knew there was no way he would pass the swim. So of course he didn't pass. but he will be down here training in Coronado a couple times a week. He said it's insane and some of the guys are NUTS! It must be pretty bad because Jay is all ready in great shape and he said he almost passed out. hahah...out of control. I really want him to leave soon so that we can get it over with. Really it won't be over with though because most likely whereever I go for grad school he won't be able to be there. We shall see. It is all going to suck pretty damn bad, but we figure that at least when all is done we can enjoy our lives and know that we are doing exactly what we want to be doing and didn't sacrifice our dreams just to not leave eachothers sides. My program is only 2 years so I figure that is not too bad.

Hope i answered it all for you!! I wanted to put it all in the original post, but i didn't think anyone cared for me to go that in depth! Keep reading I'll try to keep up on the posts!!

Quarter End

All right, glad to see I am not the only one who neglects their blog. No recent posts on Sammy Eug who I did get to meet for the first time on Thanksgiving. Of course I was too scared to hold him, but I did get to brush his wonderfully soft whisps of hair :) Hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving, I certainly did. My goal was to eat so many mashed potatoes that my stomach exploded, but fortunately I ate an abundant fill and am still alive to recall the occasion. This week is my last week to sit in class and rot, so really I just have one day left since today is Thurs!! Yay! Then next week is finals. Surprisingly i am not as stressed out as most UCSDans get...I hear there is a pretty high suicide rate 'round this time at good ole UCSD...so sad...it actually somewhat scares me that I am so calm, it's not like i am all ready prepared or something. Good news! After this quarter I can actually begin working in my major course work, since i just changed it, i only have 2 courses down, by chance. I am excited to have a whole new change of pace! good god, if I didn't change my major this quarter I would be taking a 2nd course in physics and the lab, biochem, and my 2nd o. chem class....vomit...no wonder I changed. It's kind of funny because I had heard that soooo many people who start with the major I chose, will not stick with it and I was determined that would not be me, but of course it was.

Counting down to Chrismas Eve! Looking forward to a FANTASTIC day/night and Amy and Brian's.

...and I'm retarded...

So of course, just like everything else that I start, I never follow through...Started the blog, gave a lame post, never logged back in. I must admit, like I said, I really don't have much excitement going on in my life at this point. The biggest haps these days are that I recently changed my major from Human Bio to Biological Anthropology. Will I ever graduate? This is the question of the year. The answer, my friends, is YES! And sooner than was expected with my other major. I am due to graduate in Dec. 2009, but it sucks because I have a choice of walking 6 mos early or 6 mos after. It's no fun to walk early because you aren't even close to actually done since there are 2 quarters to go, so I am choosing to walk in June 2010 which is when I was going to be walking with my old major, so I guess it really doesn't make that big of a difference, but I will get to work full time for 6 mos and save up before I plan to move in August 2010. Also Jay joined the navy on Friday after years of researching and networking and talking about it. As of right now he entered in to the Delayed Entry Program and still has another physical test to pass in order forge on into the job that he wants. He believes he will be taking that test a week from now to see where he is and if he doesn't pass he will train more and repeat the test. If he passes, as I understand it, he will train with the guys who are in the program until they ship him off to basic training where he will be miserable and possibly regretful of joining the navy.hahha...but I am happy for him, we have a long and trying road ahead as he will be shipped around the U.S. for about a year while he trains. Luckily I have a lot to keep me busy while we both get our lives together!! Thats all for now!

To Any Who Are Interested

I have no kids, my life is pretty uneventful, and I really don't engage in any crazy activities, but I AM terrible at keeping in touch with people and, ya know, maybe someone is interested in what goes on in my life! :) I mean I will be entering adulthood here shortly (yes, I am 23 so technically i have been an "adult" for quite awhile, but I don't consider an adult someone who is completely dependent upon there parents for survival) so exciting new adventures are bound to happen!! So for all those interested...please indulge!
